The MEGAHERTZ™ Implant System

The Megahertz Implant System uses proven, existing technology and time-tested materials in a unique sequence. It was developed to expand access to implant-supported tooth replacement, particularly for underserved populations including the poor, elderly, and medically infirm. By simplifying surgical and restorative protocols, the system allows patients to leave the dental office with functioning implant-supported teeth in only two visits, with minimal surgery, minimal discomfort, and at a fraction of the cost of traditional implant services.

The Challenge with Traditional Implant Dentistry

Traditional implant dentistry is dependent upon osseointegration, the biological process in which the implant fuses with the patient’s bone. In this approach, an implant is surgically placed into an edentulous ridge and left to heal for several months while integration occurs. Placement requires careful navigation around vital structures such as sinuses, blood vessels, and nerves, and often necessitates bone grafting or sinus augmentation when sufficient bone is not present. These procedures demand advanced surgical skill and extensive training.

Healing times may extend many months, and when bone grafting is involved, total treatment time can approach or exceed one year before a final restoration is possible. The process typically involves multiple appointments including implant placement, impression taking, abutment fabrication, and final prosthetic delivery. Traditional implants also rely on small abutment screws and cementation techniques, both of which are common sources of failure. Screw loosening or fracture is a frequent complication, and excess cement has been associated with peri-implantitis and bone resorption around implant threads. The cost, complexity, and length of treatment make conventional implant dentistry inaccessible for many patients.

A Fundamentally Different Approach

The Megahertz Implant System eliminates many of the limitations associated with traditional implant dentistry. It uses a one-piece implant design that does not require separate abutments, screws, or cement. By removing these components, two major causes of implant failure screw loosening and cement-related peri-implantitis are eliminated.

Rather than using a single large-diameter implant to replace each missing tooth, the Megahertz System utilizes multiple small-diameter implants placed divergently within the available bone. Traditional implants range from approximately 3.2 mm to 6.0 mm in diameter. Megahertz implants are significantly smaller, measuring approximately 2.1 mm to 2.4 mm. Conceptually, this design more closely replicates the natural roots of a tooth. The implants are placed at varying angles, creating a stable network of support. The prosthetic and the implants function together as a unified system, with each component reinforcing the other.

Because the implants are smaller in diameter and are intentionally placed divergently, less bone volume is required. They can be inserted into narrow or knife-edged ridges without the need for bone reduction procedures. In many cases, this eliminates the need for augmentation surgeries that would otherwise increase cost, discomfort, and healing time.

Digital Design and Fabrication

Treatment begins with a comprehensive digital evaluation. During the first visit, an intraoral scan of the edentulous ridge and opposing dentition is performed, along with shade selection. A CT scan is obtained to evaluate bone density and determine optimal implant placement locations.

The prosthetic is digitally designed using this data and is fabricated using 3D printing technology in an FDA-approved filled composite material designed specifically for dental prosthetic applications. This prosthetic is engineered to function not only as the final restoration but also as the surgical drill guide. It incorporates guide tubes that direct implant placement precisely and predictably.

Surgical Protocol

All patients are prescribed Amoxicillin 500 mg three times daily beginning the day before surgery and continuing through the day after. Prior to placement, patients rinse with a 0.2 percent chlorhexidine solution for one minute. The surgical area is anesthetized using local anesthesia.

The prosthetic, which also serves as the drill guide, is secured in position using a cross-arch stent to ensure accurate placement. A 1.1 mm pilot drill perforates the gingiva and cortical plate at 200 rpm to a depth of approximately 5 mm. The corresponding self-drilling, self-tapping implants are then inserted, initially by hand and subsequently torqued to 35 Ncm using a hand torque driver. The drill guide tubes ensure correct angulation and depth. The implant itself functions as the final drill and remains in place.

Silicone sleeves are placed over the driver heads to protect them in the event that future access is required. The access openings are filled with composite resin for esthetics and protection. Once placement is complete, the holding stent is removed. The full ridge lap prosthetic design minimizes undercuts and reduces the risk of food entrapment.

The entire procedure typically lasts between forty and ninety minutes.

Post-Operative Care and Follow-Up

Patients are instructed to maintain a soft diet for four weeks following placement. Chlorhexidine rinse is used twice daily for two weeks. Daily cleaning with a water irrigator at a medium setting is recommended. A protective retainer is delivered at the twenty-four-hour follow-up appointment.

Patients are evaluated again at one month and three months and then continue with regularly scheduled recall appointments.

Management of Implant Complications

If an individual implant were to fail, it can be unscrewed and removed. After a period of healing, a replacement implant can be placed. Due to the implants' narrow diameter, minimal bone loss is expected even in the event of failure.

Patient Selection Criteria

The Megahertz Implant System is intended for patients who may not be candidates for conventional implant surgery due to financial, medical, or anatomical limitations. However, certain conditions must be met to ensure safety and predictability.

Patients must not be on immunosuppressive medications, must not be uncontrolled diabetics, must not be smokers, and must not exhibit parafunctional habits such as bruxism or severe clenching. Active periodontal disease must not be present on surrounding teeth, and the patient must have stable occlusion in other areas of the mouth so that the replacement teeth are not the sole source of functional support.

Clinically, there must be adequate bone covered by attached mucosa. At least six millimeters of bone must be visibly available on conventional radiographs during initial screening. A minimum of eight millimeters of vertical restorative space between the opposing dentition and the ridge to be restored is required. The patient must also be able to open at least forty millimeters anteriorly. Patients who meet these criteria proceed to CT evaluation and digital planning.

Expanding Access to Implant Care

The Megahertz Implant System was developed to serve patients for whom open implant surgery, sinus augmentation, ridge augmentation, and prolonged treatment timelines are not feasible. By reducing surgical complexity, minimizing required bone volume, shortening treatment time, and eliminating common failure points, the system opens the possibility of implant-supported prosthetics to a significantly broader population.

It is implant dentistry redesigned for accessibility, efficiency, and predictability.
